MOSCOW (Reuters) – Russian Energy Minister Nikolai Shulginov said on Thursday that a ban on fuel exports will not be lifted soon and will remain in place until the domestic market stabilizes, he said. reported the Russian news agency Tass.

Nikolai Shulginov also said that some additional measures could be taken to deal with fuel shortages, according to the news agency.

“I will say one thing: hopes for a quick lifting of the fuel export ban are in vain. The measure will last as long as necessary to stabilize fuel supplies and prices,” he said , quoted by the Tass news agency.

Last week, the Russian government implemented a moratorium on gasoline and diesel exports, except to four former Soviet states, in an attempt to stem a rise in fuel prices on the domestic market and combat against fuel shortages.

Analysts expect the restrictions to last only a few weeks, until the end of Russia’s harvest season, when demand for fuel increases.

President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday ordered his government to ensure that consumer fuel prices stabilize and called for additional measures to balance the domestic market.
