PARIS (Reuters) – The New York Stock Exchange hesitantly begins a busy session on Wednesday, during which several important macroeconomic indicators will precede the announcement of the Federal Reserve’s decision.
In early trading, the Dow Jones index gained 35.09 points, or 0.09% to 37,851.01 points and the broader Standard & Poor’s 500 fell 0.15% to 5,028.03 points.
The Nasdaq Composite hesitates and remains close to 15,653.768 points.
The Jolt survey on job openings will be published at 2:00 p.m. GMT, as well as the ISM manufacturing activity indicator.
Investors will be attentive to this first statistic because job creation by the private sector, published on Wednesday, was stronger than expected.
Resilience in the labor market is accentuating inflationary pressures and could push the Fed to adopt a more restrictive tone.
The US central bank will announce its decision on rates at 18:00 GMT, which are expected to be maintained at their current levels.
“The Fed should maintain its restrictive position for longer than expected, without excluding any restrictive posture if necessary, even if this was not its base scenario,” said François Rimeu, senior strategist at La Française AM.
In terms of values, Amazon advanced 3.5% after reporting results on Tuesday for the January-March period that were better than expected.
Advanced Micro Devices fell 7.3% after its latest quarterly results.
