Frankfurt (Reuters) – The automaker Porsche AG plans to remove 1,900 additional jobs over the next four years, a first restructuring plan that has been deemed insufficient, a company spokesman in Reuters said on Thursday.
“This is not enough: the board of directors and the works council have therefore decided on an abolition plan of approximately 1,900 additional jobs throughout the company in the coming years,” said the Spokesperson in a statement sent by email, confirming information from the Stuttgarter Zeitung.
The group aims to reduce the number of positions by 15% on its main sites in southwest Germany, Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen and Weissach, by 2029, he said.
Porsche, mainly detained by Volkswagen AG, said that he could not announce layoffs under a safeguarding agreement valid until 2030.
In 2024, the company did not renew 1,500 fixed -term contracts; 500 others are now expired, said the spokesperson.
“Porsche is still in a relatively good position. But there are many challenges to be met, such as the delay in the rise of electromobility or difficult geopolitical and economic conditions”, according to the spokesperson.
