PARIS (Reuters) – The American Secretary of Transport, Sean Duffy, said on Tuesday to be favorable to the civil aviation returning to the 1979 trade agreement providing for an exemption from customs duties for the sector.

The White House is aware that the United States is a net exporter in aerospace but is faced with a complicated situation in terms of customs duties, said Sean Duffy during a speaking at the International Aeronautical Fair and Le Bourget space in Seine-Saint-Denis.

President Donald Trump imposed customs duties of 10% on almost all imports of aircraft and spare parts, and in early May, the US trade department launched an investigation to determine the impact on US national security for commercial planes, jet engines and spare parts.

This survey could serve as a basis for imposing even higher customs duties on these imports.

Airlines, aircraft manufacturers and several trade partners in the United States have put pressure on Donald Trump to restore the customs duties planned by the 1979 agreement on civil aircraft.
