(Reuters) -French giant of industrial gas Air Liquide plans to sell its assets in biomethane, according to three sources close to the file, while the group seeks to refocus on the supply of gas for large industries and the health sector, its core business.

Air Liquide works with the JP Morgan advisers on the sale, two of the sources said.

The operation could bring in 500 million euros, debt included, according to one of the sources, a value which will depend on the assets included in the transaction.

Air Liquide refused to comment on the “rumors” and JPMorgan abstained from any comments.

According to one of the sources, the group favors an assignment of the whole activity to a single investor but could receive offers relating only to certain assets or certain countries.

Air Liquide operates 29 biomethane production units worldwide, according to its 2024 annual report.

Biomethane, renewable gas produced from organic waste, is used as a source of energy for heating and electricity production in the industry, as well as as an alternative fuel, especially in the transport sector, including sea.
