What does IPTO answer about the fire in Varybobi

by

THE fire and smoke caused the short circuit in the IPTO network and not the opposite, the Administrator states in an announcement, responding to a relevant article in the newspaper “Ta Nea” for the causes of the fire of August 2021 in Attica.

IPTO states in detail the following:

«THE fire manifested at a great distance from the pillars of IPTOas appears from all available audiovisual material, and then began to approach the IPTO network and successively shut down its circuits.

When IPTO technical staff visually located the first outbreak and immediately notified the Fire Department, the operation of the relays and the switching material had not yet been recorded. When the fire is approaching, due to the exhaust gases approaching the pylons and ducts, ionization is created which produces electric arcs and therefore short circuits in the network.

The first short circuit in the IPTO network occurred at least half an hour after the fire broke out at noon on 3/8/2021, a fact that leads to the safe conclusion that the fire and the smoke caused the short circuit in the IPTO network and not the opposite.

IPTO carries out all the necessary maintenance in its network, according to the prescribed procedures and has certified systems for the immediate detection and repair of any faults.

The IPTO pillars withstood the fire, due to their good maintenance, as a result, they return to operation regularly during the fire and the electricity supply of the Attica basin is maintained.

Also, IPTO this year, as in all previous years, has taken all the necessary preventive cleaning measures to ensure the smooth operation of the System during the summer, even in case of fire.

The Administrator is in cooperation with the competent prosecutorial authorities, who continue to investigate the issue of last year’s fire and provides them with all the information available.

Prosecutions that have been conducted in the past have not yielded the fires reported in the publication, in the electricity transmission or distribution network.

IPTO was never informed by the newspaper about any issue related to last year’s fire, while the newspaper did not ask for its opinion, as it should, before the publication of the report.

Therefore, IPTO reserves all its legal rights “.
