The volunteers of the Animal Welfare Association of Chania “The protection of animals” were confronted with another incident of animal torture.
According to an announcement issued by the club, a driver had tied the dog to the bumper of the car and dragged him at high speed on Kissamou Street.
Immediately, passers-by noticed the incident and notified the police authorities, who arrested the perpetrator.
Lakis is an elderly dog, who is being treated in a state of shock, obviously injured due to the incident. The Animal Welfare Association of Chania appeals to accommodate the dog, until the necessary procedures are initiated for its removal.
The driver of the vehicle went through a truck and is expected to be tried for the incident.
The announcement of the association states in detail:
Yesterday we were informed about a car that was running at high speed on Kissamou Street, with a dog chained to the bumper. The dog was crawling on the road, unable to react.
Fortunately, some other drivers noticed the incident and stopped it in time, before the dog was killed. His guardian was identified, passed by and released on a regular basis.
Lakis has been badly injured and has burns on his body from the friction with the asphalt. At the moment, he is being treated in a state of shock and needs immediate hospitality in order for a prosecutor’s order to remove him to be issued, since although he was forced to take him to the doctor, he left him helpless and tied to the floor.
Locals informed us that he did not eat or drink water and we took him to the vet.
He is a grandfather with arthritis and tomorrow we will do biochemical tests and abdominal ultrasound, since at the moment he drank only water and does not eat.
But we can not accommodate him, the houses of all the volunteers are full and there is no way he can leave the place where he is abused if we do not find a house immediately!
Let’s give Lakis a chance to live calmly the time he has left!
