The choice of a prosecutor and not a judge for his top position Prosecutor of the Supreme Courtproposes to the government, with its unanimous decision the Plenary Session of the prosecutors of the Supreme Court.

The government is expected to proceed with the selection of a new prosecutor for the Supreme Court, at the end of June, after the departure, due to reaching the age limit, of the current Prosecutor Mr. Vassilios Pliotas. Mr. Pliotas resigns after three years at the helm of the Prosecutor’s Office, leaving a significant legacy with his work, which was distinguished by sobriety, strict observance of legality, which resulted in the Prosecutor’s Office marking a long period of calm and effective work.

In view of the forthcoming government election, for which the processes are in full swing, the Plenary Session of the members of the Public Prosecutor’s Office, met at the end of last week and unanimously voted in favor of the position, the government to choose a prosecutor and not a judge for the most crucial position of the judicial hierarchy.

Her reasoning is as follows. “The serving Deputy Prosecutors of the Supreme Court amount to a sufficient number, have high prestige, solid legal background, long experience in exercising the special duties of prosecutor, having served in the sensitive and complex framework of action of the Prosecutor for about forty years.” Therefore, the Plenary Session concludes, “The State should not ignore the size of the offer of the prosecutors”.
