Fragos and Frag. a Alkiviadis Stefanis, active and retired Officers.

The following is the funeral delivered by the Head of GEETHA, Konstantinos Floros:

From the classic years of Greek antiquity, from the years
of Lysias and Pericles, the Greeks used to pronounce
epitaphs in honor of their chosen fellow citizens, in order
to immortalize their wonderful life in the collective national memory.
Such a fine man, a really great one
The Hierolochite, Commander and Hero General was Greek
Konstantinos Korkas, whom today with pain and sorrow
we say goodbye.
These three highly honorable adjectives, “Hierolochitis”,
“Commander” and “Hero”, who adorned and brightened it
name and rank while he was with us, will now accompany
eternally and in his eternal memory. Each of them corresponds
in the three greatest and top titles he won “with the sword
and with his blood “literally, after being injured twice over
in the battle.
The late General Konstantinos Korkas was the
last perhaps of a heroic and glorious Generation chosen by
Fate but she also responded to this call and chose to
live in danger in order to lead Greece to
Freedom. And he did. He did it with effort, sweat and a lot of blood !!!
Following in the footsteps of the man’s life,
essentially follows in the footsteps of legend and history. That too
because he claimed to give the potential “present” to the big events
that marked the History of Modern Greece, to know a lot
important people and serve with them in Arms for
fire and iron …
His passage, wherever he passed, a real one
blessing for the Homeland and the Armed Forces.
In 1941 we find him first year Ewelpi in Kolimbari
Chania to fight as a division of the Nazi invaders during the epic
battle of Crete, where he will receive the baptism of fire. Inside the
hell of the Cretan Epic!
After the Pyrrhic victory of the Germans, he will return to Athens
and from there, burning with a desire for freedom and action, he will go
secretly, via Asia Minor and Cyprus, in the Middle East
in order to continue from there the Struggle for the Homeland. Him
fight for the free world.
Arriving in Haifa, Israel, he joins the 5th
Battalion of
2
of the Hellenic Brigade located in the area. When issued
the order for the voluntary formation of a Battalion of Electors, will
is one of the first to rush to join him,
a sample of his fiery and fearless heart
of steel character.
On September 12, 1942 he will meet the legendary
Colonel Christodoulos Tsigande and will follow him as
loyal and honorable soldier in the War as a member of the Sanctuary
Battalion of the Middle East.
Training in unorthodox war tactics will suit
immediately with his daring character. That’s why it will be from
the first to receive parachute training,
jumping into the Suez Bay. Lucky those who him
have heard him narrate them. Really lucky !!!
As a Hierolochite of the Middle East he will fight in the first
Front line on the Libyan-Tunisian border, will
take part in the terrible battle of Czar Rilan and will reach as
liberator up to ancient Carthage.
As a Hierolochite of the Greek Archipelago then will
make a military leap over Samos, will participate
in the cruise operations for the liberation of our islands
and will be required to be present at the signing of their delivery
German Guards of the Dodecanese that took place in Symi,
together with its Commander Christodoulos Tsigande.
As an Officer of the then newly created Squadrons, of the legendary
Lokatzidon, as Commander of the 14th Mountain Expeditionary Battalion, will
excelled in operations during the period 1946-1949,
certifying his heroic action with the wounds he suffered
on the battlefields.
After the end of the business will manage select
Units, such as the Third Amphibious Squadron, will serve
First Commander of the 4th Army Corps, of the 1st Army, to
ended his illustrious career as Inspector General of the Army
and to be demobilized with the rank of Lieutenant General and his title
“Honorary Commander of the 1st Army”.
The late General lived a life – we would say fictional in military action, fire and
danger. A long life, an intense life, a life full of selflessness
national offer, a life full of Greece, a life really
enviable. Who among us is not jealous of such a life?
And his earthly life ended with the best perhaps now
honored way, having passed into eternity a few minutes after
honored his fallen comrades-in-arms in Kavouri, at
Annual Memorial of the fallen Hierolochites and Paratroopers.
He did his duty for the last time here on earth and then the
His soul, this great Greek Soul, fluttered in the skies
to take its place up there, very high, where the
Pantheon of the Immortal Heroes of the Nation. Together with those who as much
he was alive he did not tire of praising and admiring and they are lucky
those who had the privilege of hearing it first hand.
I had the great honor to live it up close, I had the great
privilege to honor me with his friendship, I was fortunate to learn
close to him and get to know first hand the deeply patriotic and
his didactic personality. I listened to him and traveled mentally to
battlefields, in the deserts, mountains and rocks found
with the gun in hand. With the gun in hand and Greece in the heart
of.
His character is combative, torrential and priceless. THE
his fiery soul, full of youthful vigor, illuminated by radiance
higher ideals. The mouth of the relentless preacher of principles and values.
And his mind is always clear and bright, flooded with
glorious memories, it worked for us young people like a living,
multi-page and valuable national bibliography.
Praise General,
Hierolochite, Commander and Hero General,
You honored the uniform of the Greek Officer and the Coat of Arms as much
few.
Your example lighthouse and infallible indicator illuminates and will
illuminates like a powerful projector the rough street of Timi and his
Debt that we are destined to run. And I will
we walk to the end, rest assured.
Greece, its Armed Forces and especially the Expeditions,
they mourn, they thank you and they say goodbye. They say goodbye to me
emotion and pride, as one of the chosen ones, one of
those whom the ancient Lysias calls blessed and
enviable, pointing to them in his Epitaph:
“I think only such people are better off
are born,
who, although they received mortal bodies,
they left an immortal memory because of their bravery “
Goodbye General, goodbye Mentor, friend, father, brother in Arms !!
Goodbye, great and glorious Greek!
Goodbye Worthy Child of the Homeland!
Thank you for everything!
May your Memory be eternal. ETERNITY!
IMMORTAL!
