Invasion of students at the Rectorate of AUTh- The dialogues with the Rector

The Rector of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Professor Nikos Papaioannou, talked to the students who had been protesting outside the Rector’s Office for quite some time.

The rector flatly refused the students’ allegations that it has anything to do with the police’s operational strategy by referring them to the police regarding the injuries of students during the mobilizations of the last days.

Mr. PapaioannoAsked if he condemned the injuries, he replied that he condemned the violence wherever it came from.

“You accept the demolition of the library; ” the rector asked the students, to which they replied that the students’ lives were more valuable than the walls.

In addition, the students claimed that due to the presence of police and security on campus, but also because of the chemicals that have fallen recently, they are afraid to come to the university to attend their classes. Mr. Papaioannou commented in this regard that almost all the buildings of the university at this time are full of students and the lessons are done normally.

The students then asked the rector to oppose the new law Framework for universities and the law Chrysochoidis-Kerameos.

Mr. Papaioannou asked where the students disagree, saying to themselves, “with everything”.

The rector’s dialogue with the students then continued with Mr. Papaioannou saying that society says other things about the university and that this can also emerge from a poll.

He stated that he never refused to meet with students, however, as he said, these should be done with the representatives of the students and not with 50 people. “Student associations are independent and do whatever they want. We never refused to talk to representatives. There is a discussion with representatives, not with 50 peopleHe said characteristically.

The students finally asked her to intervene during the next senate in order to express their objections to both the new framework law and the issue of the presence of the police, with the rector answering that at the next meeting of the body, they will be accepted their representatives.

It should be noted that the dialogue lasted a long time on the stairs of the 7th floor of the administration building where Mr. Papaioannou had come out, with the students often disapproving of the rector, shouting slogans both against him and against the Police, but also interrupting him several times. as he answered their questions.
