The big fire did not spread to adjacent buildings, said the Fire Department – Investigation by the investigator for the causes
It came under control the fire that broke out last night in the courtyard of a plastic factory in Aspropyrgoson Agias Sofias Street.
The big fire broke out yesterday, around 9.30 pm, for reasons still unknown and quickly spread, due to the flammable materials that were in the yard of the company. Very quickly, due to its intensity, which was strengthened by the strong winds that blew in the area, it expanded to storage facilities of the facility. Firefighters battled the blaze overnight to contain it, resulting in an improved fire this morning.
According to the Fire Department, there were no reports of the fire spreading to nearby buildings. Last night, 70 firefighters attempted with 2 groups of pedestrians, 21 vehicles and 2 ladder vehicles, water-carrying local authorities and volunteers, while this morning the forces were reduced and 30 firefighters with 13 vehicles and water-carrying local authorities operated on the spot.
The risk of the fire spreading was quite high, both because of the burning plastics and because the fire broke out in an industrial area.
At the same time, the atmosphere was very suffocating while Yesterday at 11 pm a message was sent via 112 to the residents of Aspropyrgos but also to those who were within a radius of 4 km, to avoid unnecessary movements and to stay indoors due to the release of dangerous fumes.
The causes of the fire are being investigated by the competent investigative department of the Fire Brigade.
