New round of deposits in Chania for the deaths of the elderly in the “hell” nursing home

A new round of deposits for the conditions of food hospitality in the nursing home of Agia Skepi in Chania has been opened in the last few days at the Prosecutor’s Office of Chania, according to information from zarpanews.gr, and while the owners and doctors of the structure remain in custody after their apology last February.

The voluminous case file, which includes a series of criminal offenses against the elderly that led to an unjustifiably high number of deaths, has returned to execution and requests for the summoning of new witnesses have been filed by the defense of the accused. In particular, persons involved in the case have already testified, while elderly people who have been hosted for long periods of more than five years in the structure are also expected to testify, while the case file is supplemented by forensic reports by technical counsel from the defense.

Seven defendants

They are accused of the case seven people for forming and participating in a criminal organization, with the two owners (mother and daughter) and the two doctors (general practitioner and psychiatrist) having been remanded in custody and the three employees remaining on parole.

At the same time, a case file has been formed with 29 other defendants, which has a volume of more than 1,000 pages.

The offenses concern the deaths a total of 30 seniors and the attempted murder of 8 others, while the total deaths recorded after the investigation of the Authorities in the institution amount to the dizzying number of 293 in just six years (from 2015 to 2021).

In the meantime the structure continues to function normally and in fact recently proceeded to change its name.
