A transnational criminal organization was disbanded, whose members committed burglaries-thefts from homes throughout Attica, from Property Crimes Department of the Attica Security Directorate,

According to the Hellenic Police, in the context of a large-scale operation, which took place yesterday in various areas of downtown Athens, to dismantle the above criminal organization, 12 foreigners, aged 26 to 72, were arrested. At the same time, another foreigner was identified, a member of the organization, already locked up in a Detention Center.

A case was filed against them for the -case- offenses, of the criminal organization that committed distinguished thefts of more than 120,000 euros, in collusion and continuous, acceptance and distribution of products of crime, forgery, disobedience and violations of the legislation on prevention and suppression of money laundering, weapons, aliens and the anti-doping code.

The investigation of the Department for the Prosecution of Property Crimes revealed that the above defendants, at least since June 2021, had established and joined a criminal organization that committed burglary and theft from homes in various areas of Attica.

The organization was structured within the Transnational Crime Groups and Organizations of Eurasian Organized Crime (according to international terminology «VOR V ZAKONE»).

The anointed with the specific title “VOR V ZAKONE – The hierarchy of the team

The anointed with the specific title “VOR V ZAKONE (Thief in Law)” are the leaders of the organizations, they inspire respect in all the members of the group and in the respective criminal organizations that are active in each country and follow specific rules of conduct. They obey the “laws” of criminal life and have organized all their activities and contacts around it. The main feature of the organization is the loyalty and devotion to the “Team”, which is ensured by the fact that its members have a common national basis.

A prominent position in the hierarchy is held by the Leader, who has been “crowned” VOR, that is, he has received a title that makes him the undisputed leader and coordinator of the team. All members of the group submit to him, giving him a full account of their criminal activities and constantly showing their devotion.

This position of the leader of “VOR” was held by the 72-year-old detainee, who was informed about the activity of the group both at the level of criminal activity and at the level of the subsequent process of channeling the thefts to the market. To him, the other members of the group showed their full respect every day, while their desire to meet him was very great, in order to give him money and other valuables, coming from the thefts and to win his sympathy.

In the group hierarchy, after “VOR” follows the “operational leader” of the organization, who is the executive arm and takes responsibility for the operational planning of the group and the execution of criminal acts.

The 33-year-old detainee held this key position for the organization, who supplied the members of the organization with the appropriate burglary tools and arranged the manner and the time when the stolen items would be sent abroad. He participated as a natural perpetrator in the burglaries, and finally had the opportunity to financially support the other business members when they needed it.

In the pyramid of the organization follow the rest of its “operational members” who are street level criminals and specifically burglars who acted daily in various areas of Attica.

The 41-year-old detainee had the role of the organization’s thief and the “appraiser”. He even maintained a mobile phone business and a restaurant in Omonia.

How he acted

As for the mode of action, its members went with their business cars, initially to the area they had chosen, where they inspected the candidate houses and monitored the movements of the locals and tenants.

Then the business vehicles were parked nearby and after checking if the tenants were absent from the apartments, they proceeded to break into them. They were in constant telephone communication and spoke in code, while at least one member was supervising the house outside.

The members of the organization possessed special know-how and specialization regarding the different types of locks and left no obvious trace of violation.

The organization, apparently with money from its illegal activities, acquired 8 cars, which were registered to other people and which it used in its illegal activities.

What was found in the investigations

In their possession and from the searches in 10 houses and 2 shops, were found and confiscated, among others:

• 4 pistols
• 2 revolvers
• 259 cartridges
• taser device
• 2 knives
• sword
• iron fist
• a multitude of jewelry, jewelry and watches
• many electronic devices
• many mobile phones and sim cards
• a multitude of sunglasses and perfumes
• a number of burglary tools
• Crowds of different types of keys
• plastic packaging with anabolic substances
• the amount of 8,347 euros
• 11 cars

From the investigation so far, 47 burglaries-thefts from houses, in various areas of Attica, were investigated, with the financial benefit that the organization gained from its action, to exceeds 434,000 euros.

All those arrested have repeatedly occupied the Police Authorities for similar offenses.

The investigation for the full verification of the scope of their criminal activity continues and in addition and in cooperation with the International Police Organizations, the international action of the criminal organization is examined.

The arrested were taken to the Athens Public Prosecutor.
