As announced by THE GREEK POLICE, the incident happened on Saturday morning, when an IX truck, driven by a 57-year-old man transporting 17 immigrants illegally, crashed into a house fence, causing it to overturn. A migrant was pulled out of the wreckage of the vehicle dead, while the other 16 passengers, as well as the driver, were transported injured by EKAB stations to various hospitals in Eastern Macedonia and Thrace.

According to what became known, The truck was initially spotted moving on the national road Komotini – Xanthi, and, as he was suspected, police signaled the driver to stop. But he changed course, developed speed and disappeared from the spot. It was located after investigations, when the vehicle overturned in the settlement of Iasmos. According to information, the trafficker is of Georgian origin and is being treated under guard.

In the meantime, in three more police operations that took place in the last 24 hours in the areas of Rodopi and Evros, a total of six traffickers were arrested for smuggling immigrants into Greek territory. More typical is the case of a trafficker who transported four illegal immigrants, from Turkey to Greece, crossing the river Evros in an inflatable boat.
