Major disasters in Orestiada – Houses flooded, roads “cut”

Great disasters were caused by bad weather GENESIS in villages of the area Orestiada and especially in Neochori and Lepti, where many houses were flooded by torrential rain and properties were destroyed.

The volume of rain was huge, with the result that the roads were “cut” in half in parts of the provincial network and specifically from Valtos to Neochori, but also in Lepti to Patagi, Ambelakia and vice versa. The inhabitants lived a night of agony, as they did not know if they would find themselves during it with new huge quantities of water that were entering everywhere.

In the Minute houses flooded and hid in the mud, such as the tavern “Kostoglou” which is located near the church and suffered significant damage, since at that point the water entered many other houses in the village. At that point the traffic was stopped on the road to Orestiada but also Patagi, Ambelakia and the village was “cut” in two.

The same in the neighboring Neochori, where the photos of Dimitris Triantaphyllides with a drone, both in the afternoon and in the evening, are indicative of the flooded houses and other areas of the village.

The Fire Brigade and crews of the municipality of Orestiada, together with the residents, were trying to save what they could and to provide solutions. Fortunately, no human life was lost with the situation that prevailed.

With the first light of day, the inhabitants measure their wounds, with many houses in these two villages but also in Kyprinos having flooded, households and properties having drowned in the mud and despair is natural to overwhelm them.
