Small fires in Paros: Strengthening forces – In battle and two Canadair

The forces for extinguishing the fire in Parosas the early mornings were small flares.

Particularly, two aircraft will launch from the air, while a group of pedestrians crosses from Syros by boat. According to the Fire Brigade, although during the night the fire showed an improved image, today at dawn there were small flares. For this reason, it was deemed appropriate to strengthen the forces, in order to avoid the risk of the fire getting bigger. Overall, at the point they operate 20 firefighters with 1 group of pedestrians, 6 vehicles while assistance is provided by water-carrying local authorities and volunteers.

Last night, shortly after 21:30, a fire broke out for an unknown reason at the foot of Agios Antonios, near the monastery located there, on the side of Molos and Kalogeros. The fire burning low vegetation and then moved in the direction of Piso Livadi, without however threatening a residential area.

Due to the strong winds blowing in the area, the fire was constantly changing directions while more than two fronts had been created. However, the danger that existed for the monastery of Ag. Antoniou, -in which there were no people-, as well as for some houses, was avoided.

Residents with fire extinguishers, tires, earthmoving equipment participate in the firefighting effort and try to create fire zones.

What worried the local government and the residents was the danger of the fire spreading to a grove at the foot of the mountain near Piso Livadi, where there is quite dense vegetation.
