They refused to say the slightest thing about the case with the illegal cargo that was confiscated last week in a luxury villa, which they had rented in an area of the municipality of Thermi.

During their apology to the 4th special investigator of Thessaloniki, the four Englishmen arrested for load of almost 300 kilos of cocaine and are charged as members of an international drug trafficking ring.

Retaining the right to remain silent, the accused – reportedly – refused to say the slightest thing about the case with the illegal cargo seized last week in a luxury villa, which they had rented in an area of the municipality of Thermi, while they held the same attitude regarding the part of the accusations related to the criminal organization.

An investigator and a prosecutor decided to remand them in custody they made their way to the prisons. The prosecution that had been brought against them concerns the criminal acts of drug trafficking, in the form of import, transport and possession, professionally and in collaboration, as well as the formation and membership in a criminal organization.

According to an announcement by the Hellenic Police, the accused (aged 38, 45, 48 and 52) belong to an international circuit, originating in Latin America and importing large quantities of drugs into the Old Continent and Australia. Two of the defendants appear to have played a leading role in the operation of the circuit, as described in the prosecution documents. The illegal cargo, the value of which exceeds 14 million Euros, was imported, through the port of Thessaloniki, in a container that transported legal cargo with bananas.

The Drug Prosecution of Thessaloniki -in collaboration with the American Drug Prosecution (DEA) and other services abroad- identified the details of a fifth person in the case, which is attributed a leading role in the action of the criminal organization. In addition, the law enforcement authorities appear to have elements that connect the same circuit as the 654kg of cocaine mammoths seized last April in a port of Calabria, Italy, again in bananas containers and destination in Thessaloniki.
