Greeks and Britons gathered early in the afternoon inside the hall that houses the Sculptures of the Parthenon, at the British Museum, to demand its reunion with those in Athens.
The initiative belonged to the British Parthenon Marble Reunification Committee, on the occasion of the 13th anniversary of the opening of the Acropolis Museum.
The event at British museum took place with the assistance of groups of Greeks in London.
The dozens of attendees raised banners demanding reunification, as well as Greek flags, while symbolically the famous British-Greek author and member of the British Commission, Victoria Hislop extinguished the candles on a birthday cake of the Acropolis Museum.
“For 13 years the Museum in Athens has been waiting for the Sculptures, which are here illegally … they were stolen from Elgin. “That day will come, I’m very sure,” Ms Hislop told SKAI.
Professor of Classical Studies at King’s College London and also a member of the British Commission Edith Hall He said that “reunification is what Greece wants and deserves”, and that such a move by Britain would highlight the country’s generosity.
“It would be a condition for everyone to win,” the well-known classicist added.
