Electric cars: Charging on the move is being prepared by a British company

A UK-based company has started testing induction chargers mounted on the road that can wirelessly charge electric vehicles, but will also be able to act as a charger in a parking space where the driver will not need to use cables.

The test is performed with a fleet of ten Renault Zoe that carry a special kit that can charge the battery while the car is in motion or parked. The tests are carried out by the electric vehicle charging company Char.gy, which, among other things, has developed pad technology, which is capable of charging a car while it is in motion. The project will provide a solution to all those who want to have an electric car and do not have a place to charge it or those who, while circulating it, want to have the safety of a charged battery. The option also includes charging in parking spaces. There are no charging cables and this means that it is potentially not dangerous for other road or sidewalk users.

The company says that the technology, which operates through an electric induction charging base installed on the ground, has been tested and the first results are encouraging. The charging pads have been developed by the University of Warwick and the company specializing in IPT Technology wireless charging, using technology similar to that currently used to charge some electric buses.

The tests use 10 Renault Zoe rented by a rental company and are rented to the public for a small fee for their use. The first test is currently underway at Marlow in Buckinghamshire, where a charger has been installed in a dedicated car park, and nine more locations around Buckinghamshire will follow shortly.

The first samples of the research have already been collected and analyzed by professors and students of Open University. Based on the comments made by the users, it will be decided if there should be improvements in the project.
