A total of 24 scarabs were found yesterday in Aristotelous Square, on the day of World Scarab Day.

The legendary “scarabs”, the cars that after many decades run smoothly on the streets around the world, continue to captivate the eyes of all. Ordinary citizens warmly bend over to see more details inside, while the silhouette, with the perfect proportions of a model holding the title with the longest production duration, is the one that floods with positive emotions, uniting the past with the present.

A total of 24 scarabs were found yesterday in Aristotelous Square, on the day of World Scarab Day. The legendary car, which starred in many movies and grew up for many generations, went off the production line after an agreement signed by Hitler with Porsche and was to become a car car symbol.

“This is an air-cooled car that has the engine in the back of the vehicle. It does not have the comforts of today’s cars, but it is a functional and beautiful car. If something goes wrong we easily find spare parts, as there is a plethora of spare parts around the world. The Greek loves this model and is emotionally attached to it “, says the president of the Thessaloniki Scarab Club, Christos Dagdelenis, who owns the oldest scarab that circulates today in Thessaloniki (1956).

For his part, the vice president of the Club, Vaios Kokkinos, points out: “There are car lovers all over the world. Greece has embraced the car and loves it. In Thessaloniki there are about 100 owners of such cars and we make a great effort to get organized, so that every year we present more models and offer a bigger story to the world that seems to love the model “.

For Konstantinos Ioannidis, the scarab is his whole life: “If you drive it once then you bond with it. I move with it every day. I love it, it’s my whole life. I can not imagine driving another car. It may not have the comforts of modern cars, but it has a heavy history and that fills you. I wish this car to be passed on to my children and that they continue to love it as much as I do “.

As for Athanasios Manolas, he likes to give life to decommissioned cars. “The scarab I have in my possession was an abandoned car. I took it, made it and made it functional. It is a reliable car that you like to drive and tie with. You can easily find spare parts, so you do not face big problems with the service “, he notes.
