Intimate ballads grow, regain prestige and attract loyal audience in SP

by

It took about 20 months for the advance of the vaccination campaign against Covid-19 to allow for a loosening of the quarantine and the reopening of nightclubs in São Paulo, which returned to piling up shows and clubs as if we were at the beginning of 2020.

On the one hand, there is the euphoria of the public, lacking meetings and parties late into the night. On the other hand, the emergence of new bars and clubs, many of which have opened in recent months and have two things in common: they are generally small, more intimate spaces that attract a loyal audience, with people who have started to buy their cards at the same places every weeks.

It’s a subtle but relevant change. Even before the pandemic, itinerant parties, which grew up in the capital of São Paulo and established a robust agenda, were the ones who gave the cards, while clubs and nightclubs, many with huge dancefloors, lost the spotlight — although, of course, they never ceased to exist. .

At that point, regulars preferred to follow a certain event or a certain DJ, regardless of where the program took place or the artist played. It was as if the zip code mattered less and more the CPF.

But that is changing. “On a smaller dance floor, with fewer people, it’s easier to find friends. You end up knowing what song you’re going to play, what drink you’re going to have, who’s who,” says Christopher Tomaz, event promoter who curates music venues like CoffeeShop Club and Meow. “Places like this are popping up because it’s easier to manage and because the customer experience is better.”

There are several examples around the city where the public appears almost without checking the program, because they already know what the weather will be, who will be on the dance floor and what they will listen to. In one of the hippest neighborhoods of the moment, Barra Funda, Dali Daqui is like that. The address emerged as a food bar, but launched a fixed schedule of DJs and shows a year ago.

In Pinheiros, the Coffeeshop Club, which is not exactly a novelty, also saw the public become more loyal in the last semester. “People already know who they are going to meet here”, says Raoni Lucarini, who shares the space society with his brother. “There is also a connection between customers and staff, which reinforces the idea of a clubhouse”, agrees Alexandra DiCalafiori, a partner at another such space, Galeria Café, which arrived in the same neighborhood about a year ago, with an eye on the LGBTQIA+ public. .

The birth of new nightclubs and the increase in the number of parties come in the wake of other growth: that of Covid-19 infections in the country and also that of deaths from the disease. Today, the moving average of deaths is 152 per day, which is a 22% increase from two weeks ago. The average number of positive diagnoses reached 46,137 per day, an increase of 24%.

Despite this epidemiological pressure, the clubs go well and catch their breath. At Itaim Bibi, Vitrinni Lounge Beer is another example of a house with duck. But those who play cards there are the celebrities — the case of ex-BBB Guilherme Napolitano, Thais Braz and Pyong Lee, funk musicians Mirella and Don Juan and even the sertanejas Maiara and Maraisa.

“I feel that people have preferred the smaller clubs,” says Lúcio Morais, a partner at another nightclub, Non Avaiable, or N/A, a new club hidden under The Bowl restaurant, in República, downtown. “There are already people who leave Copanzinho and always come here”, he comments about the place, which opened three months ago.

This nightclub profile has grown so much that, when least expected, the night often ends up in one of them — even if that was not the original plan.

“I prefer any pub, but I’m dragged to these places by friends. There’s nothing good about it, except for the people — there’s a line for drinks, a line for the bathroom, music that plays a thousand times”, says film producer Mayara Wui, which can sometimes be found on the street of type addresses, such as Mercadinho do Lasanha, in Vila Buarque, and Cantinho da Barra Funda.
