The Court of Appeals granted mitigation to the perpetrator who confessed to his crime

The recognition of a mitigating factor in a 36-year-old man who was found guilty of brutal murder of a prostitute during an erotic act, in January 2014, in Thessaloniki, he “broke” the first-instance sentence of life imprisonment that had been imposed on him.

The Thessaloniki Mixed Jury Court of Appeal imposed a 15-year prison sentence on the confessed perpetrator for manslaughter with intent in a calm state of mind, recognizing the mitigation of subsequent good behavior, thanks to which he was removed from life.

The crime was committed in the apartment, where the woman of Bulgarian origin offered sexual services. In his apology, the perpetrator reported that he lost control, but he was unable to recall the circumstances under which he went so far as to slaughter the woman with a kitchen knife and then strangle her. He referred to psychiatric problems and through his lawyer asked to be found guilty of manslaughter in a boiling of mental momentum, but this request was rejected.

Following the court ruling, the 36-year-old, who has lived in Greece since 2008, where he occasionally worked as a waiter, security guard and theater technician, returned to prison to serve the remainder of his sentence.
