The court found her guilty of failing to comply with welfare rules as well as violating a sanitary regulation, while acquitting her – due to doubts – of the accusation of raising and keeping pets in a commercial form and violating a sanitary regulation.

The 60-year-old woman who was arrested in mid-June after a search of her house in Toumpa, in which 16 dogs were found living in miserable conditions, was sentenced to 21 months in prison with a three-year suspension by the Three-Member Criminal Court of Thessaloniki, reports Voria.gr.

The court found her guilty of failing to comply with welfare rules as well for violation of a sanitary regulationwhile he acquitted her – due to doubts – for the accusation of breeding and keeping pets in a commercial form and violation of a sanitary regulation.

Witnesses, including a police officer who went to the apartment as well as neighbors, testified that the house was in a miserable condition and that the dogs lived in dirt, many of which were in very small cages.

“I just want my kids to come home”

In her apology, she denied the accusation of raising animals for the purpose of sale. She claimed that they are her great love and that together with her friends and her son they train and supervise their reproduction, so that they can participate in exhibitions.

“I am ashamed to be 60 years old and to stand before you. Dogs are my weakness and my hobby and I love to take care of them “she said in her apology.

Referring to the poor condition of the animals, she admitted that it was indeed the worst time they could check as, as she said, her health problem worsened. In fact, he attributed the complaint to a dispute with another tenant of the apartment building.

“Rarely are these animals in the same area, I always make sure one or two dogs leave for a while to relax and be able to make them champions. I also have a health problem. If you can accept this as a form of remorse because I did not abandon them, I lived with them “argued.

“I am willing to accept any supervision as long as my children return home”she said crying at the end of her apology.

It is noted that the court decision is expected on whether the 60-year-old will keep the dogs or will remain in competent structures of the municipality.
