Alligators belong to the family of reptiles, ie they are cold-blooded, have backbone and are covered with scales on dry skin. They have 74 to 80 teeth in the jaw and when the teeth wear out or fall out, they are replaced. An alligator can have more than 2,000 teeth in its lifetime. There are two different types of alligator: the American alligator and the Chinese alligator. American alligators can be found in the southeastern United States in places such as Florida, Louisiana and Georgia.
