The new name was presented at an event that took place this morning at the TRAINOSE building on Petmeza and Sygrou Street, in the presence of the Ministers of Infrastructure and Transport, Kostas Karamanlis, National Economy, Christos Staikouras, the Italian Minister of Finance, Daniele Franco, and the president of the parent company Trainitalia, Luigi Corradi , of the subsidiary Ferrovie Dello Stato Italiane to which TRAINOSE belongs, Luigi Ferraris, but also of the company’s president and CEO Dario Lo Bosko and Maurizio Capotorto, respectively.

“Today’s important day coincides with a period where the Mitsotakis government has decided to upgrade rail transport in Greece, investing over 4.5 billion in railway projects, because the railway is at the heart of the green transition” emphasized the Minister of Infrastructure and Kostas Karamanlis of Transport and underlined that “we have to make the train in Greece a truly competitive means and the country gets the railway it deserves because in recent years it had been left behind”.

“Greece” added Mr. Karamanlis, “can emerge as a major hub of infrastructure and transport for the south-eastern wing of Europe and in this Hellenic Train has an important role to play, to which I wish good success”.

“The strategic goal of the Mitsotakis government is to upgrade the railway infrastructure and there is a commitment not only in words but also in investments” emphasized the Minister of National Economy Christos Staikouras, also referring to the agreement recently signed between TRAINOSE and the Greek State, which provides for the supply by TRAINOSE of hybrid and other modern trains, as well as the upgrading and digitization of passenger service systems.

“The Greek economy is being upgraded, rechristened and strengthened”, stressed Mr. Staikouras, noting that “Greece will be a champion in Europe in the next two years in terms of investments and exports”.

Italian Finance Minister Daniele Franco referred to the excellent relations and cooperation between the two countries, noting that this cooperation is developing every day in areas such as energy. He also mentioned the importance that the railway has now acquired in Europe, employing 950,000 workers.

“Today is a new era for our group,” said the managing director of Ferronie Dello Stato Italiane, Luigi Ferraris, and assured that the most modern Italian railways will be transferred and developed in the Greek railways. .

The president of TRAINOSE, Dario lo Bosko, spoke of a historic day for the company and underlined the collaborations that Hellenic Train will make with Greek universities and other institutions in order to introduce the most modern available in the field of customer service in the market, utilizing the new minds from the Greek universities.

He also referred to the memorandums of cooperation signed with the OSE for the upgrade of the depots, but also with the Hellenic Institute of Transport, which will transfer its know-how. “We want to embrace the passenger from the moment he leaves his house until he reaches his destination,” emphasized the president of Hellenic Train.

The managing director of Hellenic Train, Maurizio Capotorto, stated that he was very optimistic about the company’s course and underlined that it is time for Greece and the Greek railway to play a key role in a new transport landscape in Europe. Mr. Capotorto referred to the launch of the new ETR trains between Athens and Thessaloniki, which develop speeds of up to 200 km per hour, and announced that very soon these trains will acquire all the digital technologies that will make the journey more comfortable for the passenger. He announced that Hellenic Train will soon put into operation other railway lines in the country for historical as well as cultural reasons.

It has also committed to 10 hydrogen trains and commuter trains.

Referring to freight transport, he underlined the company’s connection with the ports of Piraeus and Thessaloniki and soon, as he said, great importance will be given to the port of Alexandroupoli where Hellenic Train will play a leading role. Mr. Capotorto also mentioned that another big goal for the company is to upgrade the train stations. At today’s event, the Italian Minister of Transport Ebrick Giovannini also addressed a greeting via the Internet, while the Italian ambassador Patricia Falcineli was also present.
