Thessaloniki: What did the man who dived into Thermaikos say to the policeman

It is revealing testimony of one of the two policemen who dived into the sea in the morning at New Beach of Thessalonikiin order to pull a 22-year-old man out of the water who was trying to avoid her arrest.

The young man, who is also flagged for various crimes, was trying to escape arrest furiously, already from the moment policemen had handcuffed him and were trying to put him in the patrol car.

As he pretended to be beside himself, he began to run towards the sea, while then dived into the water and continued his erratic behavior even when the police entered the sea to rescue him.

As reported by the policeman of Group Z, of the Immediate Action of Thessaloniki, Alexandros Sfeliniotis, he had gone to the policemen of AT Lefkos Pyrgos for assistance, for this reactionary person who had dived into the sea to avoid arrest.

“As soon as we arrived we saw that the person was in the sea and because we found that his life was in immediate danger, we decided with my colleague Alexis Mavridis, from the White Tower patrol car, to enter the sea in order to bind him, immobilize him and slowly – take him out of the sea slowly to ensure that his life is not in any danger” said Mr. Sfeliniotis, adding that the person was not at all cooperative even in the water and was constantly trying to push the police away.

In fact, at one point the 22-year-old turned to the police officer of group Z and asked him in broken Greek: “Will you die today with me?” with Alexandros Sfeliniotis answering him: “Your time has not yet come, nor mine, nor yours.”

A case file was filed against the 22-year-old Algerian for disobedience, insult, resistance and violation of disease prevention measures and tomorrow he is expected to be taken to the competent prosecutor.
