ELAS traffic controls continue with undiminished intensity, throughout the country, for road safety, in the context of the relevant mandate of the Minister of Citizen Protection, Takis Theodorikakos.

In particular, 21,594 traffic violations were confirmed, from June 26 to July 2, 2022, in a total of 101,387 driver and vehicle checks.

According to the data of the Ministry of Citizen Protection, the violations confirmed by region concern 4,268 in Attica, 2,728 in Thessaly, 2,330 in Crete, 1,999 in Central Macedonia, 1,959 in Western Greece, 1,554 in Thessaloniki, 1,370 in Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, 1,156 in the Ionian Islands, 1,080 in Epirus, 884 in Central Greece, 797 in the South Aegean, 711 in the North Aegean, 449 in Western Macedonia and 309 in the Peloponnese.

Violations confirmed concern 6,107 for illegal parking, 4,547 for excessive speed, 1,342 for not wearing a protective helmet, 1,283 for revocation of a driver’s license, 1,037 for not using a seat belt, 516 for KTEO, 485 for driving while intoxicated, 382 uninsured vehicles . one-way traffic, 75 for not using child seats, 68 for driver distraction, 50 for priority violation, 21 for improper use of lights and 4,133 other violations.

At the same time, according to the Ministry of Citizen Protection, systematic traffic checks are carried out, on a daily basis, by police officers of the 2nd Highway Traffic Department PATHE Attica of the Attica Traffic Directorate, on trucks and buses, along the road network of the new national highway Athens- Lamias.

It is noted that during the first half of 2022, 8,912 trucks and buses were checked and 2,642 violations were confirmed. Specifically, 1,430 for exceeding the maximum permitted speed limit, 438 for exceeding work-rest hours, 409 for unauthorized removal of a tachograph card or for using another driver’s card, 54 for illegal movement in the left traffic lane or in the Emergency Lane, 53 for not calibrated tachograph, 14 for intentionally interfering with the digital tachograph device by placing either a magnet or software, or an additional electronic circuit, so as to alter the recorded indications, 13 for deprivation of a valid Technical Inspection Certificate, 7 for worn tires, 5 for using an unapproved tachograph type, 3 for unsafe loading and 216 other violations.

In all cases, the prescribed administrative fines were imposed on those liable (drivers, owners, loading managers), while in the cases of interference with the tachograph of the vehicles, they were immobilized and taken to authorized workshops to remove the interference mechanisms and restore the proper functioning of the devices.

As the Ministry of Citizen Protection points out, ELAS attaches particular importance to road safety issues and in this context the checks will continue with undiminished intensity, with the aim of reducing traffic accidents and accidents.
