by

According to the first assessment of the Fire Department, the fire spread to approximately 9,000 hectares of low vegetation

“In none of the fires that the fire brigades are dealing with, there is no active front at the moment,” said the press representative of the Fire Brigade, deputy fire chief Yiannis Artopaios, in an emergency briefing that took place a while ago. As he noted, the fire that broke out yesterday in Fokida spread, according to the first assessment of the Fire Department, on 3,000 acres of agricultural land and approximately 9,000 acres of low vegetations, while strong firefighting forces remain mainly in the forest areas where fires broke out in the area of Portes Achaia and also in Sernikaki of Fokida.

All in all, in the last week they took place in our country 311 forest firesof which the most important are in Schisto Korydallos, Aspropyrgos and Eleusis, Perea Thessaloniki, Gazi Heraklion Crete, Rodakino Rethymnon, Karystos, Aliveri and Kampos Evia, Paania, Havari Ilias, Asopia and Schimatari of Boeotia, Porto Katsiki of Lefkada, Mount Athos, Kambi of Zakynthos, Portes Achaia and Sernikaki of Fokida.

Mr. Artophios emphasized that this year in the battle of aerial firefighting they are available and contribute to the ground forces 84 aerial vehicles, more than ever beforeof which 44 are leased and 40 belong to the national fleet.

“And for today, the risk of fires is very high and conditions are expected to prevail that will favor their expansion. The forces of the Fire Brigade and all civil protection forces remain on alert. But we must all be on guard. Only in this way will we protect the natural environment, properties – and most importantly – human lives”, concluded Mr. Artophios.
