British Airways: Cancels hundreds of flights – Greece is also affected

This of course means that up to 105,000 passengers (76,000 from Heathrow and 29,400 from Gatwick) who wanted to travel for their holiday on the affected flights will have to look for another available flight.

British Airways’ plan has reportedly been submitted to airport planning authorities and is part of the government’s “amnesty” for airlines to restructure their summer flight schedules without incurring financial penalties.

Companies must submit their new flight schedules by Friday. The purpose of the government move is to ensure that passengers can be properly served on the flights that will take place and that there are no last-minute cancellations or continued chaos at British airports.

It is noted that the June British Airways canceled 295 flightswhile many other airlines also canceled flights at the last minute.

THE easyJet, whose o General Manager of Operations resigned on Monday, canceled 742 flights within the last month.

A British Airways spokesperson said: “As the entire airline industry continues to face the most difficult period in its history, it has unfortunately become necessary to make some further reductions. We are in contact with our customers to apologize and offer new bookings or issue them full compensation.”

Ahead of Friday, similar announcements are expected from other companies.

Meanwhile, the inconvenience for the traveling public continued on Monday. At his airport Manchester the queue for security checks was reportedly all the way to the terminal car park. Queues at Heathrow Terminal 2 also stretched outside the building.

The problems are caused by major staff shortages airports and airlines.
