378 forest fires occurred in the last week in our country. At the same time, the Fire Brigade was called to intervene in 882 urban fires and 657 assistance services.

In the last 24 hours they manifested 41 forest fires.

Given the particular conditions that prevailed, with high temperatures, increased wind intensity as well as low relative humidity rates, their occurrence and rapid expansion was favored.

The most important of these were in Schistos Korydallos, Portes Achaia, Schimatari Boeotia, Sernikaki Fokidas, Korakia Kranidi Argolida, Porto Germenos, Agios Ioannis Corinthia and the Top of Pyrgos Ilias.

In particular, by order of the Chief of the Fire Department, the personnel of the Fire Services in Attica and Central Greece were put on general alert to deal with fires in these Regions.

In several cases, the Greek Fire Brigades worked together with Romanian and Bulgarian firefighters, within the framework of the pre-installation program of the European Civil Protection Mechanism, for the exchange of know-how in dealing with forest fires.

In the fire that occurred yesterday evening, in a forest area, in the Korifi Pyrgos area, ground and air forces are working with the assistance of construction machinery and water carriers of the Local Self-Government.

In the fire that occurred today at 2:18 in the afternoon, in Pylaia Evros, near Egnatia street, ground and air forces tried, and brought it under control in a period of 2 hours.

For tomorrow Thursday, a high risk of fire is expected in Attica, in areas of Central and Western Greece, Central Macedonia, Ionia, Sporades, Crete, Eastern Aegean, and Dodecanese.

We appeal, in case you notice a fire it is important to stay calm, and call 199 or 112 and give information about:

– your location and exact location,

– the exact location of the fire and its direction

– the intensity of the wind in the area and

– the type of vegetation being burned

Thank you!”
