The purpose of the Mentors program is to give opportunities to young people who have succeeded in our country, but also to become role models for other peers who are looking for the path to their inclusion
A member of the Mentor Group of the Special Secretariat for the Protection of Unaccompanied Minors is now 19-year-old Kourosh Baygi Nourmohammadi, who excelled in this year’s nationwide exams even though he arrived in Greece only three years ago.
The young student met with the members of the Team at the office of the Deputy Minister of Immigration and Asylum responsible for Integration, Ms. Sofia Voultepsi, in the presence of the Special Secretary, Mr. Iraklis Moskof and the director of the office of the Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ms. Angelikas Hantzou.
The three mentors, Hadi Mohebbi from Afghanistan, Keita Alasan from Ivory Coast and Amadou Kain Kamara from Guinea, welcomed their peer and committed to working closely together so that their own success stories become examples of courage and hope for all refugee children arriving in Greece.
Mrs. Voultepsi invited the four young people to work so that we no longer talk about bright exceptions, but about normality, asking them to pass on the message of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis that Greece is an open country that gives opportunities to those who want to participate in the future education, to study and integrate.
His meeting Kourosh Baygi Nourmohammadi with the mentors also coincided with another success, as the young Amandou just received his degree from the Department of Tourism Business Management of the University of Ioannina.
“Arriving at the EPPOA team as a mentor in the Mentorship program in July 2021, I was a bit lost because I had not completed my studies, namely my thesis and my internship. With the undivided support and help of my colleagues at EPPAA, I managed to finish my studies at the University” said the young graduate.
The Mentors program is a flagship initiative of the Special Secretariat for the Protection of Unaccompanied Minors that aims to give opportunities to young people who have succeeded in our country, but also to become role models for other peers who are looking for a path to their inclusion.
