Gourgoulianis on SKAI: The good news about the coronavirus coming from South Africa

by

The professor of Pulmonology predicted that in July the pandemic wave that started on June 1st in our country will end, just as it happened in Portugal.

Optimistic and reassuring about the course of the pandemic appears the professor of Pulmonology of Medicine of the University of Thessaly, Kostas Gourgoulianiswho speaking to SKAI and the show “SK Parea” noted that the coronavirus has indeed become more contagious, but it does not cause serious disease and does not kill.

“Tthe good news about the corona virus comes from south africa and we have seen it in our country for the last 6 months. These mutations don’t cause pneumonia, which means they don’t cause severe disease, people don’t need to be hospitalized, intubated, and they don’t die.“, he characteristically declares.

In this context, he emphasized that the number of cases or infections alone does not say anything.

However, he explained that there are also people, who they face health problemsias, and even pre-coronavirus with a simple infection are suffering. “From January onwards we have people in hospitals whose average age is over 80 years old and their co-morbidities are the main problem. This is the majority of the patients we have and we must protect them“, Mr. Gourgoulianis pointed out, calling them vulnerable to be vaccinated with the fourth dose as well.

In fact, he predicted that in July the pandemic wave that started on June 1st will end in our country, as happened in Portugal.

As he said, we will have constantly new mutations with increasingly increased transmissibility, which will of course be accompanied by a milder illness. “When the virus becomes more contagious, it does not kill. Because if he killed people, he wouldn’t survive“, concluded.
