by

At the European Ping Pong Pinging Championship, which is ongoing in Novisand, Serbia, Yiannis Vlotinos secured a medal in the simple 50+ year category and Stavros Plakonakis did the same in the 85+ men’s double men with a foreign teammate! They entered the semifinals and will be on the podium of the winners because there are no matches for 3-4 positions.

The tireless with officials, but also with veterans, a record of the Pan -Hellenic Men’s Pan -Hellenic titles, entered the four with amazing appearances and seeks to reach even higher on Saturday. On the last day of the championship he competes for the final with Hungarian Christian Sambo (12:15 Greece).

In its potential and the gold medal, of course, as it is characteristic that it has prevailed 3-0 in all matches!

In the same race, Vlotinos was second in 2019 in the 40-49-year category at the Budapest European Championships, third last year at 50+ years at the Rome World Championships and now hunting historical first for himself and Greek colors.

Plakantonakis remains remarkable and only for the fact that he has so much mood and energy in his 85th year. When it continues and international discrimination really is for bowing. In excellent collaboration with Dan Pale Larsen, with a win in the group and two more on the board, they went on to the semifinals and the finale of the event will fight for anything more. On Saturday at 10:00 am Greece, they are in the four with Raymond Dixon/Denis Bromz (England/Wales respectively).

The old champion has already enjoyed doubles a silver (in the world championship) and two bronze medals (in European and world) in the 80+ category.

Thousands are the entries in Novisand and among them there are 32 Greek veterans, who have wonderful experience. Playing either in the qualifying groups, on the central dashboard, or in the Consolation games enjoyed their participation and

They managed to have a satisfactory presence given the dynamics of the opponents.

Having been showing several medals over the last six years in the big veterans’ events, this year we had two more high -rankings with the same protagonists: Blotinos, in addition to entering the four -sided, came close to securing a medal and double. He competed in the 45+ year -old category with Italian Giovanni Falkoutsi and finished on Friday. They had bye in the first round, then scored two wins with a 3-0 set and in the quarterfinals were beaten 3-2 (2-1 in front) by Tarek al-Samouri/Wijchech Colotzietsik (Austria/Poland).

It should be noted that from the top of the dashboard, the Serb Aleksandar Karakasevic, a teammate of Vlotinos, entered the doubled of the double at the A2 ASEA Kefalonia & Ithaca champion (he also competes with Servo Dragadin). The other good placement came from Plakantonakis, who in the simple 9-16 place in the 85+ year-old category.

In her simple 50+, Vlotinos initially starred in the third group, where she was in charge. He continued on the “128” board and went to his base, replacing Karakasevic as the second favorite, who was absent from the simple. He won five new wins with a 3-0 set, last night against Latvian Santis Vasilyev, and was in the medals.

At 85+ Plakonakis went a round after the groups and was eliminated with a 3-0 set by Slovakos Julius Hlubina. In the double of the same category, however, he reached a new distinction. With Dano Larsen they first qualified on the ’16’ dashboard with their second place (a win – one defeat).

In the knockouts they initially won the four sets and the decisive quarter-finals were imposed by Italian Sergio Cheroni/Antonio Pisano with a 3-0 set.
