Searches stopped for tonight – Consulate of North Macedonia in Thessaloniki: Searches will continue until the third young man is found

Today’s searches to locate the 28-year-old tourist from North Macedonia, who dived on Saturday afternoon with his group at Mytis beach in Poseidi, Halkidiki, were also unsuccessful, reported the voria.gr.

His two friends managed to be saved: the 25-year-old Vasil was picked up shortly after being swept away by the strong sea currents in the area, while it took 18 whole hours for the 30-year-old to be rescued and set foot on land again Ivanthis afternoon.

When he arrived at Kassandra Health Center today for first aid, Ivan said his 28-year-old friend was not an expert swimmer. Specifically, the 30-year-old tourist told the authorities and the mayor of Kassandra, Anastasia Chalkia, that his friend, who is still missing, hardly knew how to swim and that the last time he saw his 28-year-old friend was when he, now rescued, dived into the sea to save them while they were calling for help.

The three men visited the Chalcidice coming from North Macedonia and specifically from the city of Skopje, so that they could celebrate Ivan’s birthday together, for which, as he said today from the port of Nea Skioni, the best gift of his life was his rescue. The first to be saved was 25-year-old Vasil. A Coast Guard vessel picked him up after a surfer spotted him, and he was lucky in his misfortune not to have gone through his friends’ harrowing adventure. The second, 30-year-old Ivan, was saved thanks to a ball that he found in front of him completely by accident while sailing in the raging sea off Poseidi. Ivan rested on this leather ball for about 18 hours to keep himself alive.

In Papanikolaou, Thessaloniki, Ivan, pause in research in Kassandra

The 30-year-old Ivan Geogerfki was transferred for preventive reasons at noon from the Kassandra Health Center to the Papanikolaou Hospital in Thessaloniki and was admitted to the Pathology Clinic of the hospital. According to information, his health picture is good and stable, although clearly overworked, without any particular concern.

Two Coast Guard vessels, marine patrol vessels, two fishing vessels, three parasailing vessels, a rescue vessel and a Navy helicopter were on constant alert in the search until sunset. Also very important was the assistance of the volunteers, OFKATH, the association of friends of Kassandra health unit volunteers and EON who did not stop for a second from the first light of day to look for the 28-year-old and, until noon, the 30-year-old Ivan.

Besides, speaking to a television station of North Macedonia, a representative of the Consulate of the neighboring country in Thessaloniki underlined that the search for the third young man will continue until he is found.

Speaking to the Sitel channel, he pointed out that the two rescued boys are in good health and that the search for the third boy is ongoing and will continue until he is found.

He also noted that the consular authorities are in constant communication with the relatives of the three boys.

“I am in contact with everyone and we have information that tomorrow the parents of the third boy will also come to Halkidiki. So I am in constant communication with everyone who is related to the three boys, i.e. all the relatives and friends”, he concluded.
