The notification of the DG Civil Protection about the fall of the Antonov aircraft in Eleftheroupoli, Kavala.

“In relation to the plane crash that occurred last night (ESKEDIK update 23.00) between the settlements of Antifilippi and Paleochori, in Eleftheroupolis Kavala, 15 firefighters with 7 vehicles immediately went to the scene, while additional firefighting forces followed, including special teams from the 2nd and 4th EMAK, with two special vehicles for the collection of hazardous materials, the mobile operational center “Olympos”, as well as a Smi.EA team (drones). The area was immediately cordoned off and a security perimeter was established.

The Local Civil Protection Coordinating Body met immediately, with the participation of all the local Civil Protection forces of the Municipality of Pangai and at 02.45, with a message via 112, the residents of the settlements of Antifilippi and Paleochori were notified to close their windows and doors due to the smoke caused from the crash of the aircraft and the fire that followed the impact. Residents are requested not to approach the area of ​​the accident and to follow the instructions of the local authorities.

All investigations are carried out in cooperation with the forces of the Greek Army and the Air Accidents Investigation Committee.

From the first moment, all the relevant protocols were followed, while the National Coordination Center for Operations and Crisis Management (ESKEDIK) of the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection continues to be in constant communication with all the co-competent Ministries (National Defence, Foreign Affairs, Citizen Protection and Health), as well as other agencies.

Land mine clearance units of the Greek Army from Drama and Litochoro are located in the area, while a corresponding team from Alexandroupoli is advancing. A team of the Special Interbranch Group (EDLO) PBC (Nuclear – Biological – Chemical) Defense (8 people detection department, 4 people decontamination department, 2 people PS) from Athens is going to the area.

According to a relevant announcement by the DEDDIE, the electricity supply in the area has been restored for the most part, while seven substations remain without voltage, affecting ten businesses and twenty residences in the area near the accident site.

Also, following the actions of the Municipality, in collaboration with DEDDIE, a small water supply problem was also remedied following the installation of an electric generator at a pumping station in the area.

The Health Services of the area remain on full alert, while no injuries have been reported.

Regarding the crew of the aircraft, it consisted of eight people of Ukrainian origin.”
