Chania: Prohibition of traffic in NATURA areas when the fire risk is 4 and 5

Decision which prohibits the passage, stay and movement of persons and vehicles in areas NATUREas well as in forest ecosystems, parks and groves for those days that the fire risk prediction map of the General Secretariat of Civil Protection states prediction of risk category 4 and 5the deputy governor of Chania, Nikos Kalogeris, signed today.

As the decision states, the application of the measure is of a preventive nature and from the prohibition, emergency machinery-vehicles, vehicles and personnel of the Services and Municipalities that supervise the traffic ban and deal with the maintenance of the area in question, members of voluntary organizations that are proven to perform fire safety patrol duties, residents who are active in livestock farms are excluded and agricultural or beekeeping activities or live in these areas.

As the decision states, the Municipalities affected by the decision are invited to place information signs at the entry points and in the areas of these areas, so that the citizens are informed.

In the same announcement it is pointed out that this decision can be modified in terms of its permanent application, when special circumstances prevail that will require a different treatment. In this case, a deputy regional governor’s decision will be issued with specific temporal and spatial validity.

This decision will be in effect for the entire duration of the fire season until October 31, 2022or even further, if the duration of the fire protection period is extended by decision of the competent bodies.
