Rethymno: No active fire front in Agios Vasilios

The fire brigades are on full alert on the fronts where the fires in Municipality of Agios Vasilios they burned over 15 thousand acres. At this time there is no active front and any rekindling focus is immediately prevented since all the firefighting forces that operated in the area in the last 24 hours remain in the places affected by the flames.

The strength of the winds has decreased which helps to control the affected area. According to the mayor of Agios Vassiliou, Yiannis Tatarakis, who spoke to APE BEE: “The situation has completely normalized, it helped a lot that the helicopters until shortly before sunset were carrying out drops, despite the fact that there was no active front, purely as a precaution. It is also important that the region, as a whole, has been declared in a state of emergency and I am optimistic that the procedures will move at a very fast pace in terms of not only compensations but also any projects that need to be done”.

Echelons of the ELGA started today the registrations regarding the losses in livestock at the first level. “I hope that there will be official care so that there is no delay in the registration of the plant capital which is important for the local economy”said Mr. Tatarakis who made a reason for five days which seriously wounded the municipality and the wounds will remain for a long time.
