“What we expect from Russia and Iran is their support against terrorism,” insisted the Turkish president
The president of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan claimed today that the Kurdish militia YPG (People’s Protection Forces) is trying to divide Syria, with the support of foreign powers, and that it would be in the best interest of the Syrian people to “get rid of” them.
Speaking at the tripartite summit organized in Tehran with the participation of its leaders of Russia and his Iran, Erdogan said that Turkey sees that these two countries understand its security concerns, but “words are not enough.” He added that Turkey’s fight against the YPG and other militias will continue, regardless of who backs them.
“What we expect from Russia and Iran is their support against terrorism” he insisted, after referring to the main Kurdish groups operating in northeastern Syria, on the border with Turkey, where he is threatening to invade.
Since 2016, Turkey has carried out four military operations in northern Syria, occupying areas of hundreds of kilometers. Erdogan says Ankara will target her again YPGwhich it considers a terrorist organization, despite the objections of Russia and Iran.
