Fire in Penteli: A sobering picture of the fiery fronts – Agony for Beaufort and the revivals

by

Small outbreaks remain in Dioni, Dasamari and even smaller ones in Anthousa, Panorama Pallini and Drafi – Very strong forces and 19 air means continue to operate

The picture presented by the fire in Penteli in the last hour is better, with the firefighters continuing the great battle with the flames.

According to sources from the Civil Protection, the fire is in remission and at this time there is no active front.

Forces are still working to extinguish all small outbreaks and eliminate the risk of flare-ups.

More specifically, small foci remain in Dioni, Dasamari and even smaller ones in Anthousa, Panorama Pallini and Drafi.

Heavy forces and 19 air assets continue to work to fully control the fire.

Throughout the rest of the perimeter of the fire there are currently no active foci.

The work of the Firefighters is supported by Civil Protection officers of the Local Government, volunteers of the Fire Brigade, private volunteers and voluntary organizations.

An important role is played by the Greek Police who continue to monitor the areas and traffic regulations, the Armed Forces and the Forestry Services who assist in the opening of safe zones and lanes, while the hospitals of Attica were and are in full readiness, as is the EKAV.

DEDDIE is already inspecting and restoring the damage that occurred in its network and the poles that were burned.

All phases of the operations were carried out and continue to be carried out under the coordination of the Civil Protection interministerial task force.

The intensity of the winds

Based on the latest available forecast data from the FLAME pyrometeorological team of the National Observatory of Athens (EAA) / meteo.gr:

  • The average intensity of northerly winds blowing in the wider area of the fire will remain at 7 Beaufort until early afternoon of Wednesday. Wind gusts will remain at 70 – 80 km/h.
  • We expect a gradual weakening of the northerly winds from the late afternoon (19:00-20:00), when their intensity is expected to decrease to 4-5 Beaufort.
  • It is pointed out that due to the interaction of the wind with the strong relief of the area, the intensity of the winds is expected to be locally higher.
  • In addition, it is noted that strong wind gusts significantly increase the possibility of spotting (initiation of new foci, independent of the main front), facilitating the production and transport of hot spots.
