Firefighter representative for Penteli: Two fires started almost at the same time

by

“The fire in Megara broke out almost simultaneously after the end of the alarm in Penteli (…) while then three different fires broke out in Salamina” said Yiannis Artopaios

For two fires that started almost at the same time in Penteli the representative of the fire department, Yiannis Artopioos, spoke to SKAI, in the wake of the Prime Minister’s statement that the possibility of arson cannot be ruled out.

“At the point in Dau Pentelis there is a certain forest patrol car, but we had reports to our investigative offices from the arson department at 5:19 a.m. two fires started almost simultaneously,” he said characteristically, pointing out that all the data is being checked.

“Two fronts started almost simultaneously which troubled us. The patrol car tried to react at first, but the fire spread too quickly due to the very strong wind that directed the fire towards Drafi” said Yiannis Artopaios.

In terms the fire in Megara Mr. Artophios stated that it broke out almost simultaneously after the end of the alarm in Penteli, where it managed to become manageable within the first eight hours, while then three different fires broke out in Salamina.

“We try to put out fires at their source, but it is not always possible. But also in the field of prevention, there is vigilance with aerial surveillance in areas with risk level 4,” explained the fire department official.

Our first concern, he repeated, was to ensure the physical integrity of citizens. We moved away 85,000 to 90,000 people an entire large city in a forest/residential fabric with our fellow cops, otherwise we’d be in trouble.

“There is no active front”

“At the moment we do not have an active front in the territory, but we have a difficult fire since the day before yesterday in Penteli, which we are monitoring, we are vigilant, for this purpose we have two aircraft and a helicopter that are spraying the wider area so that we do not have any resurgence we check the perimeter of the fire. If the last candle and the last spark are not extinguished, we are not going to leave the area” clarified Mr. Artopioos.
