With further reinforcement of the firefighting forces, the operation to extinguish the fire that occurred at approximately 2:30 in the area of the Lyra dam continues Municipality of Soufli. In particular, 102 firefighters with 29 vehicles, four groups of pedestrian units, project machinery of the E.S. and water-bearing OTAs, while six fire-fighting aircraft and four fire-fighting helicopters assist from the air.
Describing to APE-MPE the image of the fire, the head of the Forestry Department of Soufli, Gianna Diagakis, states that the fire is heading south, forming a single front of about two kilometers, while a total of four foci are located with distances between them of about 500 to 1,000 meters.
Winds in the area remain weak, however the firefighting task is hampered by the flammability of the existing vegetation, which consists mainly of pines.
The effort of the fire brigade from the first moment is focused on preventing the spread of the fire within the core of the Dadia National Park.
