According to a woman’s complaint, a man tried to set fire to a forest area on Agios Dimitrios on the border of Pallini – Spata, while the fire was in full progress in Penteli

At the time when Penteli and Drafi were engulfed in flames and the fire brigade was fighting the blaze all night long, a complaint of attempted arson brings to light the skai.gr.
According to a woman’s complaint to the police authorities, early Wednesday and while the fire was moving uncontrollably, burning everything in its path, man tried to set fire thus creating another front, in a wooded area on Agios Dimitrios at the border Pallini – Spaton.
According to the eyewitness, at 05.55 in the morning, neighbors saw a man driving his vehicle in Agios Dimitriou and entering the trees.
“We figured he was going to relieve himself after he hid behind a tree that was relatively close to the road. As soon as he moved away the reason finally became apparent. The place caught fire. He was an arsonist. He started a fire».
The residents, shocked by what was happening in front of their eyes, started shouting at him while he just set the place on fire and realizing that he had been noticed, got into his car and disappeared.
Fortunately, there were shops at the scene and with fire extinguishers they managed to put out the fire before it spread and created a new fire front.
The police were immediately called to the scene and took statements while investigating the incident in order to identify the specific person through his vehicle as according to police sources a resident of the area gave information about the appearance of the man as well as the vehicle that can be useful.
“We would all be burned alive. Fortunately, we saw it in time and extinguished it,” testified the eyewitness.
According to information from the authorities, the place where the stranger tried to set fire was crucial as Agios Dimitriou was one of the few streets that remained open and was a safe passage for residents’ gathering points.
