The best European cities for food lovers

by

The study was conducted by collecting data from TripAdvisor for a total of 235,000 restaurants.

In the overall ranking of the best European cities for food lovers, the Athens is at the top of the list, followed by Belgrade and Sofia (with a score of 79.63/100). Then there are Tirana, Valletta and Lisbon, Vilnius, Bratislava, Zagreb and Bucharest rounding out the top 10, according to a study by uswitch.com.

The study was carried out with data collection by TripAdvisor for a total of 235,000 restaurants (522 in Sofia) in relation to the following variables for each European capital: vegetarian options, cafes, pubs, fast food, brunch, average price and number of restaurants. An index was then created that calculated the score based on this information, the website explains. The weighted average for both each city and each restaurant was calculated taking into account the number of restaurants and reviews, with more weight given to results with more data. Ranking results will be higher if a city has higher scores and a lower price, the site notes. Cities were ranked based on a percentage ranking.

Sofia tops the ranking of the best cafes (with a score of 9.19/10), followed by Bucharest and Athens.

The Bulgarian capital is second only to Skopje when it comes to fast food (with a score of 9.02/10).

In the ranking for brunch, Tirana, Athens, Zagreb, Valletta, Lisbon are ranked in order, followed by Belgrade, Skopje, Prague and Bratislava.

When it comes to some of the other individual variables, Sofia comes in 8th place (with 8.68/10) for restaurants with vegetarian options, followed by Prague and Riga.
