The government echelon under the Minister of Civil Protection has been in Dadia since the morning, while the fire in the forest has been raging for the fourth day
The fire is raging for the fourth day in Evros. The fire threatens the core of the virgin forest, which is a wildlife refuge and home to the last black vulture colony in south-eastern Europe. Powerful firefighting forces are fighting the flames to contain the fire fronts and save the forest, but the conditions in the area are very difficult.
“An operational team has been created to better coordinate the fire. Decisions were made. Let’s now go to the south-western front to see how we can increase the fire zones,” the Minister of Civil Protection emphasized Christos Stylianidis.
“The forest system of Dadia is a treasury for Greece and Europe. Our concern is to organize a first aid station for wild animals as well. We are already planning our steps for the restoration of the ecosystem” assured for his part the Deputy Minister of Environment, George Amyras.
According to the Fire Department, the fire is raging on multiple fronts, with the main one in Dadia. “In Evros we have a problem, and in the North-West and North-East part, the density of the forest is so great that we cannot enter, the firefighters crawled into the forest to put out the fire” the representative of the fire department told SKAI John Baker.
