It is the battle of all of us to save the National Park, this symbol of environmental awareness for all of Greece”, underlined the Minister of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection in the latest update from Dadia Evros.
The battle with the flames continues in the Dadia National Park with two main fire fronts. As the Minister of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, Christos Stylianidis, pointed out in a recent update from Dadia Evrou, there are two fronts, the southern front moving towards Provatonas and a front moving towards Lefkimmi.
“We have two fronts, which are difficult, but they are being dealt with. The southern front moving towards Provatonas, and a front moving towards Lefkimmi. Forces of the Fire Brigade are operating on the spot with the cooperation of the Forestry Services and fire zones have been opened. Also, the project machinery, mainly of the Army and the Region, is working. I always emphasize the value of the participation of all agencies. Because here – and I mean it – we operate like a family”, said Mr. Stylianidis. The most difficult front, he said, is the southwest and added that the forces there are operating with construction machinery to open a new fire zone and prevent the fire from entering “the most important zone, the A1 [απολύτου προστασίας]».
“We are continuing with the project machinery and I believe that by tonight we will have this new fire zone ready. Tomorrow morning the aerial means will try again and hopefully we will have a better picture in the morning. We will stay in the field all night tonight”, noted Mr. Stylianidis, referring to a difficult battle.
“The battle here in Dadia continues. It’s an uphill battle. It is the battle of all of us to save the National Park, this symbol of environmental awareness for all of Greece”, underlined Mr. Stylianidis.
“We are all here together in this difficult task. Next to me is the mayor of Soufli, the deputy governor, the Armed Forces, the Forestry Service and the Forestry Directorate, the Greek Police. We are all here, in difficult circumstances and trying. With proper coordination as a team, as a coordinated expression of the state in this difficult battle. I would like to emphasize something so that the citizens will also understand that the forest of Dadia, the National Park, reaches an area of 420 thousand acres. This group operates in a complex environment, as we have emphasized many times. With impossibility of access, difficult terrain with rocky areas and frequent wind changes”, the minister noted and pointed out that their goal is to limit the effects.
“Today, we again fought a very difficult battle. All. Firefighters, Foresters, Police, Army, volunteers – they worked and work like a family and we manage, despite all the new flare-ups, to save time and reduce the effects”, he underlined.
