The 21-year-old along with three other friends from Britain had hired a helicopter to move from island to island during their summer vacation in the Aegean.

The helicopter was coming from Mykonos and landed at a private helipad in Spata.

When the helicopter landed, the young man, under inexplicable circumstances, approached the propeller of the helicopter, as a result of which he was dismembered.

How the tragedy happened

The British group returned to Spata from Mykonos with two private helicopters. After disembarking, they intended to travel to Eleftherios Venizelos Airport, board a private jet and return to Britain.

The two helicopters were flying one behind the other. The first Bell 407 helicopter, with four passengers and a crew of one pilot, landed at the heliport in Spata, very close to Eleftherios Venizelos Airport.

In the second helicopter following, were the parents of the 21-year-old who lost his life.

According to information, after the landing of Bell 407, the four passengers were moving away from the helipad area to board the cars that would take them to “Eleftherios Venizelos” airport.

The unfortunate young man had just got out of the helicopter and under unexplained circumstances, hit the tail rotor of the rotating helicopter, tragically dying.

The second helicopter, with the parents of the 21-year-old Briton, was following and had not yet landed when the tragic accident occurred.

The two operators contacted each other after the dramatic incident and the pilot of the second helicopter requested and received permission to land at the Eleftherios Venizelos helipad, so that the parents would not collapse from the shock.

Preliminary investigation by EL.AS.

EL.AS was immediately informed about the case. The AT Peanias took over the preliminary investigation and will file the relevant case file. According to police sources, any responsibilities will also be investigated by the operator of the helicopter, who is being charged with manslaughter.
