Bomb in Evelpidon: The error in wiring prevented a powerful explosion

An error in wiring prevented the big hit in the early hours of Sunday in the courts of the former Evelpidon School.

Police were alerted at 11:35 p.m. when an unknown man called the zougla website and the “Editors’ Journal”, warning of the placement of an explosive device in the courts that would detonate at midnight.

The authorities were immediately mobilized to the scene, but in the end there was no explosion.

After investigations, the police found the explosive device, which consisted of a slow-burning fuse and explosive material, in a backpack, in the grove, a few meters next to the Evelpidon fence.

As it was established, only the detonator had exploded upon activation, while no explosion had occurred due to a wiring error. The burned backpack and the remains of the mechanism have been transferred to the forensic laboratories of the Hellenic Police. for investigation.

The officers investigating the incident see similarities with the attack with a stick of dynamite that took place in the early hours of July 6 at DOU Amarousiou. The responsibility had been taken by the self-proclaimed “Practically Solidarity Anarchists” with a text they published on a website of the anti-authoritarian space. In fact, the members of the anarchist group mentioned in their post that they used two kilograms of explosives.

At the same time, as noted by security officials, the unknown perpetrators for the first time made a warning phone call before the attack, something that had not happened in similar recent actions by people from the anti-authoritarian space. In fact, as they emphasize, it is noteworthy that one perpetrator installed and activated the mechanism and a second took over the warning phone calls.
