The 60-year-old self-confessed perpetrator was given a deadline to apologize on Thursday.

The 60-year-old self-confessed perpetrator of the new femicide in Rethymno that shocked Crete and Panhellenium was brought to the public prosecutor’s office in Rethymno a few minutes before 12 noon on Monday, August 1. For security reasons, the 60-year-old was taken to the prosecutor from the basement of the building.

According to his information neakriti.gr, the 60-year-old reportedly said during his confession that they had been together for 42 years, since he was 18 and she was 16. According to what he allegedly claimed, he never laid hands on her. The attacker expressed remorse for the horrific crime and is reported to have said “I wish I was in her shoes”.

The first word he allegedly said to the officers was “he knocked me down.” He claimed that the victim left the marital home three times in the last three months and when she returned, he always took her back, and divorce was never discussed.

As he claimed, yesterday morning there was an intense commotion in the kitchen, as a result of which the victim verbally and physically assaulted him, resulting in him blurting out, grabbing a knife which he pointed at her. Then he doesn’t remember what happened.

Then, as he claimed, he left the house with the deadly knife, went to his brother’s house and described to him what had happened. Afterwards, his brother called the perpetrator’s eldest son, told him to go to his father’s house and informed him of what had happened.

The 60-year-old, who is facing serious health problems and is receiving medication, felt unwell during his detention, as a result of which he was taken to the hospital and given first aid, and then returned to the detention center.

The self-confessed killer took deadline to apologize on Thursday at 10:30 in the morning, while the funeral of the victim will probably take place tomorrow, Tuesday, August 2.

He was charged at noon on Monday, August 1, criminal prosecution for manslaughter in a calm state of mind as well as for illegal use of weapons.
