Volcano eruption in Iceland: Impressive images with “rivers” of lava

The Meteorological Institute said the possibility of another eruption near Mount Fagrandalsfial “in the coming days or weeks” was considered “strong”.

Impressive are the images from the eruption of the volcano that happened yesterday on the mountain Fagrandalsfjall, in the south-west of Iceland. Lava “rivers” stretch for hundreds of meters.

The fissure in the ground, from which the lava is coming out, is located almost 40 kilometers from Reykjavík, near the site of Mount Fagrandalsfial, where a volcano had erupted in 2021.

The photos and videos documenting the phenomenon are impressive as a large amount of lava spews out of the fissure – about 300 meters long. It is also worth noting that Icelandic citizens and tourists have gone to the area to see the phenomenon up close.

It is noted that Iceland is a country that is used to volcanic eruptions, as it has 32 active craters.

The Icelandic Meteorological Institute, which monitors seismic activity, estimated the length of the crack at about 300 meters. The institute said the eruption began in the Merandalir Valley, less than a kilometer from the site of the 2021 eruption.

Some onlookers went to the site of the eruption, marveling at the sight of the boiling lava and the roaring sound as the magma erupts, an AFP reporter said.
