According to residents, the fire in Chalkida split into three fronts as it moves towards Nea Lampsako. One went up the hill, the other headed south and the third west.
A suffocating atmosphere and reduced visibility in Evia has been caused by the fire that broke out earlier in an agroforestry area near the city of Chalkida, and more specifically behind the city’s General Hospital, in the area of the shooting range.
According to the fire brigade, the fire has a good image.
According to the report, it was caused by a short circuit in a PPC pillar, however, in any case, the fire department will conduct an official investigation into its causes.
In any case, the hospital facilities or residences are not at risk.
Already apart from the ground forces, two helicopters also tried to cut off the path of the fire moving towards Nea Lampsako, due to the north, by dropping water from the air. There are also sheep farms in the area.
In any case, the course of the fire in Chalkida was limited and now there is only one front left towards Nea Lampsako, in which all the means are working.
According to residents, the fire split into three fronts as it moved towards Nea Lampsako. One went up the hill, the other headed south and the third west.
On 2 of the 3 fronts of the fire, ground and air forces have encircled the flames and are currently focusing more on perimeter rekindling, while 3 helicopters and 2 aircraft continue to fly over critical points on the fronts.
Forest commanders from the fire department have arrived at the scene, as well as firefighters with ground vehicles, while helicopters and airplanes continue their drops.
According to fire officials on the front line, “if the fire is contained at that point, it creates better conditions to control it later.”
Finally, the atmosphere begins to clear from the smoke in the city of Chalkida and the coastal zone.
In the area, ground and aerial forces of the Fire Service are working to put out the fire, which are constantly being reinforced.
